Qingdao

Qingdao , or Tsingtao as it is alternatively spelled, is a beautiful coastal city at the southern tip of the shandong Peninsula. It is a well-known holiday resort in China
and one of the most beautiful cities in Asia. Lying on the Jiaozhou Bay and facing the Yellow Sea, the city has been a geographically strategic stronghold that a variety
of world powers have scrambled to control ever since its establishment.

Qingdao is the wealthiest city in Shandong province, which itself has the second-highest GDP of China’s provinces. The total population of about 7 million comes under the jurisdiction of the Qingdao Local Government. The urban population is 2.3 million which includes 60,000 Koreans working and/or residing in Qingdao.

Retaining much of its colonial architecture plus the modern charm, Qingdao is full of
museums as well as a few temples and churches. From an architectural point of view, the
city of Qingdao is practically a museum in itself. There are 24 different styles of architecture,
definite European influences, and more than 200 villas in the Eight Passes area(or Badaguan).
Though Confucius’s hometown is nearby, Qingdao is usually the featured stop in Shandong for tour
groups, either domestic or international. The city’s unique historical background also serves as
another main reason that tourists flock to Qingdao.

In discussing Qingdao, we can’t possibly forget to mention Tsingtao Beer, China’s most well-known
brand both nationally and globally. Some thanks are certainly due to the Germans who established the first Tsingtao Beer brewery in 1903. Tsingtao Beer and seafood are definitely the first two things
on your long must-try list when you are here. Besides feasts, shopping, and colorful nightlife, full
days of exploring Qingdao still remain ahead of you...
