Chinese Business internship

Case 1

Trainee: Mr. Thomas Duncan from USA.
Tom has a BA in business school of UCLA and he has participated our Chinese Business Internship program in early of 2003.

Host Company:
China Economic Books Import-Export Co. It is a company solely owned by Chinese Economic Publisher and it one of four large national publishers. Its main business is book-importing, exporting and publishing. It was established in 1988 and Its operation has been extending to most provinces in China and many countries worldwide.

Time to start the practice: Feb. 2003

What the trainee said:
It was great experience for me to work in this company in Beijing for 4 weeks. I worked in their export department and help this department to contact its clients in Australia, UK, USA and many other countries. I also participated the updating and translating its English brochure. I become good friend to many of co workers in the company and it is valuable time for me to learn how business, especially Chinese state run companies function in China. By Tom

What the trainee said:
My main tasks at the company were based on internet research and teaching. Usually I taught Si yun (Deputy general manager) English and helped her with her pronunciation half a day and the other half I made the researches. I looked for companies who produce similar products, for manufacturers, devices and other measurement equipment and picked out those who had the most impressive and informative internet presence that could be used by Kebo for their own website.

All in all it was a wonderful experience, unfortunately much too short. The time flew by much too fast! I learned a lot about china and Chinese people and somehow about myself in this month and in addition to that I think I gained a lot of friends! By Nora

I am working in this large IT coeals with international investors. So I have been conducting feasibility study and market research formpany as the assistant to one of the directors, Jeff.
